About This Set
Long before the blockbuster movies, Spider-Man swung onto prime-time TV. The Amazing Spider-Man stars Nicholas Hammond as Peter Parker, a graduate student and Daily Bugle photographer who gains spider powers from a radioactive spider bite and takes on criminals in a grounded, crime-drama take on the hero.
The series aired on CBS from 1977 to 1979, with Robert F. Simon as J. Jonah Jameson. Its pilot film and two two-part stories were released in cinemas outside the US, and the final story was filmed in Hong Kong. Hammond was already known to film fans as Friedrich von Trapp in The Sound of Music.
The Amazing Spider-Man complete live-action series DVD set comes on 3 discs and has all 14 episodes from both seasons, the pilot film included: nearly 12 hours of uncut, digitally remastered television. That’s the pilot film, 5 episodes from season 1 and 8 from season 2. The discs are region free and play on any DVD player in the world, and the interactive menus include Play All for easy binge-watching. Audio is in English only, with no subtitles.

Got this for my nephew and we ended up watching it together. He’s used to the modern Spider-Man but found this version from the 70s amusing. It’s a great way to show the younger generation how superhero shows have evolved. The DVDs played well with no issues, and the menus are easy to navigate. It’s a good mix of old school with a touch of modern digital remastering. It’s fun to have these generational bonding moments over classic superhero shows.

Wow, I haven’t seen this series since I was a kid. The first live-action take on Spidey is nothing like the newer movies, but its a fun watch that I enjoyed experiencing again. It’s fun to see how Spider-Man was portrayed in the 70s. The DVDs have been digitally remastered, so the picture quality is decent. Though it’s not HD, it still brings out the charm of the series. If you’re a big Spider-man fan like me I’d definitely recommend watching this one at least once!
